Serious question. I work with several middle easterners. Mostly Indians, some from Iraq and Iran. I know in India people are of many faiths including Christian, Hindu and Muslim. In America we offhandedly wish people HaPPY Easter or Passover etc to be polite socially. I am tempted to ask my coworkers what is their religion. I think some of them would believe it is like a witchhunt question. If they are Christian I want to be inclusive in my Holiday wishes. If they were Muslim or Hindu I am interested too and apreciate finding out about people's cultures and understanding their Holy days.

So my question is are people sensitive about that? Will I be offending someone to ask?

some people are but most are not. just explain that you are interested what muslims or himdus do instead of easter. and no its not rude to ask someone what religion they are...its like asking...do you like chocolate or vanilla ice cream...its their beliefs and opinions
