With so much training put in to their physical fitness and technical improvement between matches and with cricketers playing all year round, why can't all players bat and bowl? Wouldn't this be more flexible to a team line-up?

Good question. I think if you looked into it, all players can bat & bowl, some better than others. For example, Matt Hayden is a batsman, but I bet if needed, he could bowl slow to medium pace.

Batting and Bowling are entirely different and require specialised skills. What exactly meant by all rounders is not a batsman who can bowl or a bowler who can bat. An all rounder should have specialised skill in both batting and bowling. It is difficult for any team in the world to have a team full of all rounders.

Not all all-rounders are the best at both batting and bowling...at least, as far as I've seen. That is why all team decide to go with at least 4 professional bowlers and more batters..Consider Andrew Flintoff. He does bowl extremely well. But he doesn't deliver it everytime while batting. To me, he is a bowler turned batsman. It's the same with Irfan Pathan and almost every other all rounder I've seen..

There 3 departments in a cricket team,
1)Wicket keeper 's dpt - one member, who does not need to ball. - Fielding .
2) Balling dpt - you need at least 5 bowlers with passe , medium & spinners. - minimum 5 members , If they are allrounders it is luxshary.
3) Batting department, - at least 4 good batsmen. 2 Openers & middle order. -

So you do not need to have all the 11 with talents in all the department. Specialists in each dpt will make better chances of winning a game.

Jack of all traders will be masters of none. You seem to have this feeling, because the so called master batsmen in Indian team played like amateurs.
