I think this is the main reason why psychiatrists don't have much business here in the Philippines. Filipinos have a way of getting their problems out of their system, it is by discussing things with their families and friends.

Most Filipinos are very sociable, they love to chat with people. So, even when living alone outside their country, they always find a way to make friends with other people, be these their countrymen or locals in the country where they live in.

So living alone doesn't mean they have to be alone all day. They have colleagues at work they can interact, make friends or spend time with during free time.

The love for music and dance is another Filipino way of entertaining themselves. Listening to music (not the metallic sounds or rap) and dancing with friends
give them the inner peace and contentment. Or they can have a videoke system (microphone and videoke in one) with which thye can practice singing even when alone at home, which they also use when partying with friends.

Another way is traveling on weekends. Going places as a tourist gives one a different perspective about people, no matter if they meet them only on the street. So when it's time to go home, they'll find that they are lucky they were able to go to those places, while those people they met have not gone to their country.

And I don't think a typical Pinoy will ever live in a place or a country following a routine of office-home everyday. There is really no chance that a Pinoy would go crazy by just living alone.

You can never be truly alone among friends (I mean, friends that keep you sane, and not always make you insane.)

By the way, this is the second time somebody asked about what it's like to live alone. Palimos Po also asked some such question about locking bathroom doors when living alone in a house. Being a bit obnoxious myself (a bit lang, hindi naman sobra,) I found a kindred spirit in Palimos, so I gave Thumbs Up to each and every one of his Best Answers. Suffice to say, they were obnoxiously good.

There are lots of things one can do to keep ones sanity, you could read a book , or write a letter to yourself, or write some inspirations that come to your mind...the best thing to do , go for a walk and pray go into a oneness with your creator, you will be surprised, to find you will not feel loney at all .......

Talk to God by praying, read the bible and ask help from our almighty GOD be sure to talk to him heartily, He can read your mind,he knows how you feel and be confident he will never by any means leave you. If you hear somebody knocking at your door with bible in their hands listen to them, especially if they will introduce to you the personal name of our Great creator they might be the answer to your prayer. Then that way you keep you sanity in check.

I like to be alone but I have this computer and a dog 'baby' and 3 clowny cats to talk to. I adore pets, so I would be sane if I had them.

Maybe getting a radio or cd player would help. Also if you can try to go out and mix with people. If you are working, try to get to know your office colleagues and maybe gather after work for shopping or chit chat.

I'll read the Bible and pray everyday. Maybe a miracle might happen but definitely in my case, it will keep my sanity.
