Unfortunately, if this sofa absorbed alot of the cigarette smell, airing it outdoors for days won't be practical.
Your best bet is to clean it, either by renting the equipment or getting in the pro's to do it. Just be sure the fabric will hold up to the method of cleaning.
Personally, I own one of those little Bissell cleaners and though it's for carpet , I have successfully used it on the sofa, too, to freshen it up from pet use.

Get it shampooed or if you have your own machine do that. If you cant..... vaccum it really well and then spray some "Arm and hammer pet fresh odor eliminator" foam all over it ...It has a very strong scent so if you can put it outside for a bit do so... The foam looks like too much but its not ....once it dries and the scent is gone the smoke odor should be as well.. It was the ONLY thing that worked after obtaining my 2 pack a day aunts old car...

interesting from the book on how clean everything my wife has on the shelf. Mix Vodka and water about 50/50 in a spray bottle and soak the fabric. After it dries tries a spray cleaner.

It really helped the car I got my daughter, did not cure it totally for me but helped a lot. A went in after with the steam cleaner to give it a fresher smell.

I would suggest that you get a spray bottle and add some disinfectant to it and spray it and let it dry and repeat this daily until the smell goes away, disinfectant is supposed to get the smell of smoke out of any material you should not have to repeat this more than twice, GOOD LUCK!

It needs to be aired out in the sunshine. I mean for a month or so. Don't now how you could do that but no spray is gonna get that out! Maybe a professional steam cleaner service might have something to clean it. Otherwise leave it out on the porch for a long time.
