They have always circled the wagons when times get tough. I think it is because they watched too many westerns growing up.

The Republican Party is a political faction that unites people under the banner of a common ideology, and not a very good one, whereas the Democrat Party is political faction that unites disparate groups and interests with seemingly nothing in common except their mutual desire to acquire money from the treasury through bloated federal programs and use the coercive force of government to enact whatever inane nanny-state legislation they deem fit.

That's why the Republicans appear so much more united. It's not that they are, but the entire party is premised on transcending identity politics and self-interest and putting forth a single message about the way the world should be. The Democrats don't even pretend that that's the way they operate. They know how they get the votes, and that's promising every little sub-group rewards for their support.

I'm not a Republican or a Democrat. This is just how I see the political situation.

Hey Tim this is one of the lamest questions ever, why because making generalizations like "blacks, illegals, leberals" is closed minded.
Politicians chose a party based on beliefs, parties vote along party lines with few exceptions.
That is why the dems celebrated winning the house and senate.
They knew they had a "majority" this means they will stick together.

A better question is "Why did the terrorist celebrate when the Dems won the house and senate?"
Answer SAME VIEWPOINT.
If the democrats were in charge during Hitlers day we would be fighting on the wording of the peace treaty with the Germans.

TO start with the Democratic party is actually made up of two paries that merge. That is why you have very liberal and very conservative Democrats.

In college I found that even if I differ in opinion, the Republicans still respect me. On my first election I wrote in a third candidate to protest the absence of a qualified candidate. The Republicans took no offense to it. A few of the Democrats went out of their way to yell at me. I grant that it was only a couple of them, but none of the Republicans attempted to bully me to vote their way. I red Jimmy Caters autobiography. He stated that the Republicans were far more willing to work with him, than the Democrats. I feel that the Republicans are far more willing ot accept peole of different views or atleast to work through the difference.

Lately, I found that the New wave of Republicans may lack that spirit. I don't trust the Neo-cons, or what ever are those that call themselves conservative, but attack like wild packs of dogs.

It is the Dems who stick together, as in defending the impeached President Clinton.

I think you have it backwards. Dems always stick together while republicans fight it out. The republicans are having a unity problem right now because liberals are trying to hijack the party.

Because they know if they vote the party they will always win. Us Dems. need to get the same attitude. We can't rely on wishful thinking,we need to go out and VOTE.

Who are you trying to kid? Republicans disagree with each other frequently. Case in point: I am a Republican, and disagree with Republican senator Arlen Specter more often than not. That is because he is a RINO (Republican in name only).

they stick because they belong to the same party. to go against the flow would mean, the lose of support from the party.

It's the beauty of the democrats - we can disagree and still get things done. We really live the free market of ideas concept - unlike the cons who march in the lockstep of rigidity and lemming like behavior.
