Hi,
I was wondering about my options to get to/from Gatwick - London (staying across from Baker st. underground station).
We (2 travelers) arrive at Gatwick midweek at 8am so I suppose we would be on our way by 9-10 am.
We depart midweek at 2pm so we would aim for a noon arrival at Gatwick.
Travel will be the last half of May. Since we will be attending a wedding in addition to sightseeing London/Cambridge for a fortnight we won't be traveling very light :( so short non-arduous changes of bus/trains/car/underground are desirable. I am looking to avoid lugging 5 mins. walking up/down lots of stairs etc.

Thanks bongo,
I'm not sure how close a hotel is to where I'm staying (in a private, borrowed, flat).
At 24 pounds p/p it will be almost as much as a car service which I see advertised for 50-55 pounds.
If I was traveling alone it woild be a grear option, one I didn't know about. Thanks for the link.

Take the First Capital Connect train from Gatwick to Kings Cross (cheaper than Gatwick Express) one flight of stairs and one escallator to the exit. Then taxi the 5 minute ride up Euston Road to Baker Street.
or you could get off at Farringdon and change to the Circle Line to Baker Street (one set of stair up and one back down at Farringdon and one set up at Baker Street)
Single fare £9
A car or taxi from Gatwick will be slow as the route into London is very busy

Get a 'Saver Return plus Zone U1' Rail Ticket, travel after 09.30 (grab a coffee) on Southern Trains (specify otherwise you will pay £10 more) and travel to Victoria Station. From there you can take the tube to Baker Street with not too much hassle (Circle Line to Baker Street ( short flight of steps into underground, then another short flight down to platform and at other end two flights of steps up to surface)) this gives you a 1 month return trip.
Or if you are planning to travel around on the train network try to get a Brit Rail Pass from your travel agents.
Hire car and drive is fine except will take between 2 and 3 hours to get too Baker Street area, unless the Hotel has a car park you will have to be a resident to street park, plus pay the London Congestion Charge as well and will be very stressfull.
If you opt for train and do not want to use the Underground, a taxi will cost you about £15 - £20 to get from Victoria to Baker Street.
Have a great time over here, be ready for any weather as May is changeable.

Take the train between Gatwick and London Victoria. Its regular, and easy. There are two options, Gatwick Express is non stop, and the regular trains vary in how many stops. I'd take the regular train option, as is £4 -5 cheaper, and not that much longer. From London Victoria, with your desciption of your baggage, probably look to use a cab on to Baker St. You're not going in peak hour, so shouldn't be too bad. If you do decide to use tube from Victoria (victoria line first, then change at Green Park station onto Jubilee Line, or at Oxford Circus station onto Bakerloo Line), then but a through ticket from the ticket office at Gatwick, as this will be cheaper than having to buy a subsequent ticket at Victoria.

Getting to airports in London is very easy. You can either take a private mini cab (fare around £60 [$120]) which takes around 2 hours depending on traffic. Or you can get the Tube to Victoria and get on the Gatwick Express (40 minutes from Victoria). To get to Victoria from Baker Street tube get on the Circle line to Victoria or get on the No. 2 bus. You could get a taxi to Victoria (about £10) and then you'd save yourself the problem - the gatwick express is very luggage friendly and there are no stairs at the other end in the airport.

Gatwick Express, no problem, then Tube or get a cab from Victoria. Don't even consider getting a cab from Gatwick, it's miles out in Sussex and will cost you a fortune, especially if you are converting US pesos, sorry, dollars!!

I would try and avoid public transport. While its very good, as with every major city it gets crowded and really is no fun with heavy luggage.
Your best bet will be an airport shuttle. Its going to be more expensive than the other options but by far its the least stressful
