I don't think it was appropriate for Imus to speak these words but what is the difference?

That's the double standard. It isn't right. If one person can say something, everyone should be able to say it. To site specifically, the N word. Blacks use that word to no end. Just watch their movies or listen to their music. They cant get enough of it, but let a white person say it and watch out. I think that if blacks can say it, so can whites. If the blacks are serious about their disdain for that word, then they shouldn't use it either.

The answer to your question is, He didn't.
The network would have been happy to get all that free publicity for their host, but some of the big advertisers pulled their money out of the network. Proctor & Gamble were one of the biggest ones to do so, and it worked. Don Imus, a radio legend and an American icon, is off the air. He, of course, will be back, probably on satellite radio (if the FCC doesn't screw that media outlet up by allowing the Sirius/XM merger), and probably for a lot more money than he's making now. Sharpton and Jackson screwed the pooch on that one. If they hadn't made such a huge deal out of it, the Rutgers girls might have sued and then Imus and the network would have paid a fine and been done with it. As it is, Imus stands to make a lot more money. Of course so do Jackson and Sharpton, and that's what really matters: Keeping the idiots that want to tell you how to think rich, and in the public eye (Actually, those two should be forever closed off from society in a dark room in a sunken ship somewhere with just enough air and food to last until they bored each other to death. shouldn't take long). So go on and be mad at Imus who was just making an insulting joke like he's done 5 days a week for longer than I've been alive, but also be mad at people who take advantage of his comments and make a media circus out of it so they can further their own agenda.

Yea, I knew someone will say that since it really is nothing compares to some of those hip hop/rap music videos. I guess the context makes some difference, but still it shows things have really changed. But I think people who criticize Imus do criticize hip hop, rap...etc. It's tough call for any side really in the context of bigger picture.

It was a wrong thing for Imus to say. He apologized. Let's move on. There are bigger problems in the world than that.

It's just a tactic to cool down and pacify some Blacks.

Rappers will start to lighten up a little...until things cool down.

Don will be back, same as usual, when other advertisers realize he now has a larger audience and will be a source of income for them.

I guess these "shock-jocks" are just getting really annoying...

I think that Sharpton shouldn't be calling attention to him since attention is how he gets paid...

If we just dismiss him as a racist jerk and move on then he will eventually lose his job just for being a general bore...

I feel that Sharpton is playing right into the network's hands on this one... not wise...

the radio host lost his job because of the bottom line on a few advertising budgets.
