Because it's easier to whine about things, than it is to deal with them, or do something about them. Happy people- don't complain. People with "issues" do.

There is a specific point in your question/story that has so far been overlooked -- namely, the use of a cell phone on an airplane.
It is absolutely, positively, without a doubt against federal law to use a cell phone on an airplane, so if the pilot you mentioned was actually on a cell phone then it doesn't matter what he was talking about or how he was saying it.
I have not heard any news stories about an incident such as you mentioned, but assuming it is true than I would have to say that the pilot was disciplined for use of the cell phone more than for his language. If he was disciplined for his language and not the cell phone use, then someone really missed the point.

When it comes to Pilots its different they signed a form saying what they will do while at work and the person who did the complaint was wrong in my eyes it the man/women was on the phone that is his right to talk how he wants. Now with Cell Phones I am sorry to everyone who has one. People have open ears to all you say and if you are anywhere at all where a person is on a phone its hard for someone to just ignore the one talking. If I ever have a problem with the words someone is saying I simply say I am sorry I am butting in but the words you are saying is wrong in front of my kids or to me if I feel the words being said are really really wrong to say. I understand that saying bad words of any kind can be of habit to a bunch of people but having that person understand who is around they will either stop or leave the area. Since this is on a plane its hard to get a area where there is no one. So I really feel that the person who complained was doing this the wrong way if that is all he.she did.

Just flock of lost sheeps wandering lost with lost sense of direction and purpose of life blindly searching for the shepherd singing "Baa! Baa! Black sheep" in planet of apes.

You're right. Things could be a lot worse, out troops could be receiving gift bags as they rush to surrender to the enemy.
