When wa the last island discovered? Were all the islands discovered before the advent of satellites?

There was one discovered a few months ago off of New Zealand. Islands are cropping up all of the time due to sea vents.

One near New Zealand a few weeks ago. There is also an island being formed from an underwater volcano a few miles east of Hawaii...but it won't be an island for a few years at least.

New islands form all the time because of volcanic activity.
It only takes 11 years for there to be plant life on those islands. Pretty sweet huh?
