If you want a performance car, why don't you buy one instead of trying to build one. If you want a car with a little 1.5L engine to be fast, you have to spend $80K just look at www.injen.com
HOWEVER if you want a good, reliable car, then leave it to those "commies" (in your words) and buy a Toyota or Honda, the more Japanese, the better. It's in the window sticker when you go look, see what content is "made in Japan".
