I hope it's not remade, but if it was and I was the casting director...

I would cast Edward Norton as Charles Foster Kane for the flashback sequences.

The original could never be re-made, please say "they" won't do it!!

If they did, I really can't think of anybody who would come close to Orson Welles. There's nobody who has his strength and passion and magnetism.

They may as well re-make The Italian Job with somebody like Mark Wahlberg as Charlie Croker, or The Ladykillers with Tom Hanks in the Alec Guinness role. Oh hang on, I think they did that already.... Yikes!

While I like the question and your choice of actor, I have to say this movie should be left alone as it is, and never, ever, be remade.

i go with 1 of 3...
Edward Norton (brilliant and diverse)
Clive Owen (also brilliant..not so diverse)
Matt Damon(he really has the charisma for the part)
oh how i wish Robert Redford was young again! (he was brilliant in F.Scott Fitzgerald's The Great Gatsby)

Kelsey Grammer---he's the only actor today who has the caliber of talent that Orson Welles displayed 40yrs ago.
