i asked a question and he told me to stop and said stop asking dumb questions, is this person really a genius? because i dont think a genius would give that response, they would be more inclined to answering and would know no question is stupid

Some of the most advanced scientists and philosophers have agreed that a scholar isn't worth his salt if he can't explain his theory in a way that would make it comprehensible to a 10 year old.

If you are addressing someone who has an extremely high level of intelligence, they should be capable of expressing themselves in a way that is both clear and simple. Many scientists and philosophers use metaphors, analogies, and allegories to help make their points clearer. A genius isn't likely to think less of you for asking them to clarify. It helps if you tell them specifically which part of what they are saying is unclear to you, and they will usually be happy to explain it in a way that makes it more accessible. Don't be afraid to ask questions, it's the mark of an intelligent mind. The less intelligent ones are those who sit there nodding blankly when they haven't understood a word.

It sounds like this person was just plain rude....genius aside. No question is stupid....questions are how we acquire knowledge in the first place. Some people aren't patient with questions, however. Go direct your questions to some other intelligent person. Or go look it up in a book, or online. Just because someone is smart doesn't mean they know everything.

Genius is a subjective term. If you can articulate a question well enough, anyone smart enough will answer. If they are able to articulate it well enough back, he or she is probably even smarter, for they have just judged how best to teach you something.

Geniuses are overrated. They still haven't figured out how to rid the world of evil and violence and create unity. In fact, some geniuses have worked against all that.

Don't let a self-proclaimed genius fool you into thinking you are less than him. Any question is a search for knowledge and that is truly the smartest thing you can do.

Rely on your own intelligence. Listen to others, but rely on your own for final say.

First don't think of a genius in
a stereotypical way. They are
just normal people.
Being a genius doesn't mean
that you are smarter than
everyone else. Just that you are
very smart at something.
If you are talking to a person
who has a genius IQ, it would be
like talking to anyone else of
normal IQ range. You would only
have a problem, if he started
talking about the specific area
he was genius in.
If you did not understand the
subject, I'm sure he would be
glad to explain it to you. If you
were truly interested in it.

Trust me when someone ask a genius "what does that mean" they hate that, the best thing you can do is show excitement in what they're talking about, get involved in the conversation then guide them to answering the question you want without directly asking them a remedial question.

Keep in mind that most of these people tend to be eccentric and get lost in their own thoughts so being able to guide them into this type of "trap" is quite easy. I would have to say the vast majority of them are socially inept and won't have any clue as to what you're doing and would probably get caught up more in the fact that you're engaging them in conversation about something they like.

Firstly - there are no geniuses. They are just experts in their own field of knowledge.

1) Be yourself. I'd give a damn to what people think of me or my intelligence.

The genius would be talking to you not because he is a genius, but because he wants to talk to you.

2) If you don't understand anything, be polite and ask just like you did on Yahoo Answers.

And trust me - he may be a genius in HIS field and YOU are a genius in yours.

He may know about Meteorology, you may know how to sculpt out of wax :)

See?

Did that hurt?

If the genius says something you don't understand, as with anyone, ask him or her to repeat what was said.

I have two genius friends. If either say something I don't understand I ask that the information be repeated and explained slowly and clearly. They do it.

this so called "genius" sounds like he spent too much time in the books and not enough time working on his manners or his people skills...first off there are no stupid questions...only stupid answers...and his answer was about the dumbest one he could give...so if you value his knowledge then you can placate him, but i would leave him to his idiocy...

I speak slowly, clearly and go back and explain if I get ahead of them!
