Two parents, genotypes IAIB and IBi, produce a child. Determine what the probability is that the child may display each of the four ABO blood types. Use a Punnett Square.
Ok--I know One Parent is Type AB and the other parent is B . So I know the possible blood types for this child is Type A, B, or AB. Type O would be impossible. Right? Well I really don't know how to set it up in the Punnett Square. So any help there would be great

Parents: IAIB IBi
Gametes from first parent on the left side of the Punnett square. (Just separate the alleles or genes that the parent has.) IA and IB.
Gametes from the second parent on the top of the Punnett square: IB and i
For each box inside the Punnett square match the gamete from the far left of the square with the gamete from the top of the square.
First row of boxes will say: IAIB and IAi These are blood types AB and A.
Second row of boxes will say: IBIB and IBi. These are both blood type B.
Yes, Type O is impossible. The expected phenotype ratio is 1 Type AB: 1 Type A: 2 Type B.
The expected genotype ratio is 1 IAIB: 1 IAi: 1 IBIB: 1 IBi.

Ok this and sex linked genes can make it more tricky to do the punnett squares. You can also write these blood types as
AA, AO, BB, BO, and OO (O is reccessive, while A and B have the antibodies and are written as I and i).
I feel this makes it more simple to understand.
So in your case you have AB x BO (remember i=O)
so your offspring's genotypes will be AB, AO, BB and BO and phenotypes are AB, A and B (x2).
Both ways (ie IA, ii and the AO, OO are used, but you may find that using the second type will help you "understand" it better and make it easier to do punnett squares.

___IA______IB
Io__IAIo____IoIB
IB_IAIB____IBIB
as per the punnet square above
pnenotypic expression of the blood groups-
A:AB:B-
1:1:2
we see that type O will be impossible as the parent with AB type can contribute only A or B allele and for expression of O the recessive allele Io should be homozygous recessive i.e. IoIo.
(I stands for immunoglobulin)

Parents: AB x Bi
Kids: 1/4 AB, 1/4 Ai, 1/4 BB, 1/4 Bi
You can also use O instead of i (ex. BO instead of Bi).

To set it up in the square, set up the "B" as "|O|B|" - then your square will work :-)
