It could be Intel's QX6700 quadcore, especially when symmetric multiprocessing is involved.

If your asking about processors that are available to consumers: Intel has jumped up recently in speed and efficiency. They have a new quad-core processor that is pretty blazing. The next best consumer chip is probably the Core 2 Duo line. They're really quick for a reasonable price.
