I hurt my L knee running up a hill in Nov. Almost the worst pain I ever felt-like something was tearing. One doctor told me it was bursitis and told me to take 600 mg ibuprofen 4x per day. My stomach literally started bleeding. The 2nd person I saw was an orthopedic PA. He wasn't sure what it was and thought it might be a meniscal tear. After a cortisone injection failed to supply any relief, he sent me to see an orthopedic surgeon. He thought that it was plical syndrome and gave me a 2nd cortisone injection.

Here's my problem: The last injection that I got was about 2.5 months ago. I was relatively okay for those 2.5 months, but now it's really painful again. I assume that I'll have to beg for another injection, but am I just going to have to keep doing this every 3 months or so?

Edited to add that I'm in my 20s and it def. isn't arthritis. The last md that I saw wrote "plical syndrome" as the diagnosis. I had had an MRI prior to seeing him and it was inconclusive. They couldn't say definitely that it wasn't a meniscal tear and said that if arthroscopy was considered, the area could be more closely evaluated.

Your condition must have been already diagnosed for the doctor to give you cortisone shots. The next step may be a knee replacement. I am sending you three web links so you can read for yourself what is going on.
Injecting a knee joint with corticosteroids is a relatively straightforward procedure that, when done properly, takes only a moment and is not too uncomfortable. Relief is nearly immediate, because the cortisone usually is mixed with a local anesthetic, similar to Novocain used by the dentist; several hours later, the corticosteroid preparation will begin to have its anti-inflammatory effects on joint tissues. These effects can last anywhere from several days to 6 months or more. Most commonly, the relief lasts several weeks to several months. In view of this, many patients opt to try one or more cortisone shots before going ahead with a knee replacement. It is fairly clear that if one or two cortisone shots does not provide a reasonable level and duration of benefit, repeated injections are unlikely to be helpful.

You really can't guard your heart. You will always have miscommunication in a realationship especially since you seperated for a while. It is going to get worse if you argue again especially if you bring up the past. I have had the same situation it was the wors break up of my life. I dont regret we broke up I am married now and very happy but I never forget the awful arguments I had with my X and I have never stopped thinking about her. The mistakes I have made in that relationship have made my marriage much much better. But you should not take advice from me go and love him but when it gets too bad again remember at least you tried and gave it all you got. There is nothing more you can do. We always love more the ones that we miscommunicate with that is the human way we love fire and spark not boring talk where everything we talk about we have in common there has to be some differences but if they cause you to fight all the time then its not ment to be.

You can't get the injections forever because they're steroids. They cause damage if used all the time. You need some physical therapy and to see a good sports doctor.
