We eat, then we fertilize the earth. The earth wouldn't survive without us. Is that our purpose?

We are pretty inconsequential in the earth-fertilizing category. In societies with sanitation systems, this cycle is pretty much interrupted. Much of the nutrient value of sewage ends up in surface water systems where it might cause eutrophication -- not good.

No the Earth can survive without us just fine! In most cases it is even better off without our intervention! We are more like a giant destroying machine than a fertilizer generator!
