Don't get me wrong, it was a mildly fun experience. The visual style was stunning and it held my attention. But I am simply confused by the over-the-top love for this movie! The storyline is so hollow and I didn't feel for any of the characters. They were all personality-free cardboard cut-outs with nice bodies. I honestly thought this was a poor man's Gladiator.

Does anyone *agree* with me and find 300 overrated?!

There are some reviewers who agree with you, like the one from Entertainment Weekly

I kind of agree with you, I loved the visual effects of the movie (although their abs were a bit overdone) and it made it a very unique movie experience but I too found it hard to care about the characters. Should have spent alittle more time on the families so we could feel more with the final outcome. Atleast there was not too much CGI which I find a lazy person's special effects. Give me a real person in a costume any day over one that is totally computer generated.

You know what, maybe you went to see the movie once the huge hype started and you expected fireworks and the whole shebang. I saw it when it first came out and expected the worse so you can imagine when I saw it I absolutely fell in love with it. Don't stress, I felt the same way with Napoleon Dynamite...I don't know why but I didn't catch on to the craze and was almost annoyed by the huge reaction for the movie.

Well said.. Not much character development and the whole movie being done on blue/green screens gives it that cardboard quality you speak of. I anticipated more...especially after watching Sin City.

No it was an awesome movie. I dont think there was any need to feel the characters since everyone of the Spartans at Thermopylae died.

Man you must be weird. 300 was great!!!
Although l have to say, it was way exaggerated with those guys. None of them had a gut, beer belly or were fat. Even the town drunk was in more shape than Batista.

Not at all. It was originally a graphic novel, so it has that kind of look, but the story was as good as you could make it since we don't know that much about the people in it.

I haven't seen it yet. I really haven't paid much attention to the reviews so don't really know a whole lot about it to rate it or not. I plan to so I guess time will tell.

thats what the people in ancient sparta were like
im sure they would find the average person living now to be just as hollow as you found them, if not more so
they died fighting for their beliefs, which is quite noble and not at all hollow
