When I ran with a vol. fire and rescue company we were all trained to do everything. The person who drove the truck was the first person to the station (for EMS calls too.) The truck driver would also stay with the truck and operate the pumps. I seriously doubt you'll find anyone permanently assigned as a "driver" unless there was a physical condition that prohibited that person from fighting the fire and they'd proably only do that for one of thier existing members.

I'd say "no". After all, what do you do once you get to the scene?

Technically hoseman don't fight the fire. They just stay outside and help link up all the hoses. It ain't easy though.

Go watch Ladder 47. It's not a bad intro to firefighter's life.

if its a small volunteer department like where i live at, the guy who drives the truck also helps fight fires also, but usually all of them are trained to be able to do any job their needed for in a small department, good luck hope this helps.
