Prefferably using the sharpening rod that comes with good sets of knives. I've been trying for a couple days now, but cant seem to get the really keen edge that I'm looking for. So what's the best technique?

Holding the angle the same as you draw the knife against the rod. The smaller the angle the keener the edge. But you also lose some duribility by doing that. Try either 15 or 17 degrees angle. Good luck

~Throw them all away and send Ron Popeil three easy payments of $19.95 and you'll never have to sharpen a knife again.
