is it just me, or does it seem like everybody is either with evolution or with creationism? i know it's not true, but i'm asking about the perception. do they honestly think that by attacking evolution they are proving creationism, or is it that they want to open the door to muslim creationism and ancient greek creationism and babylonian creationism, and just hope that they come out as top dog? if you agree, where do you think this perception comes from?

if you think it comes from the media, do you think it's because they only show the 1% of nutjobs and not the vast majority of the people of that religion, or are the nutjobs actually the vast majority?

There is a large middle ground. That God is using evolution as Creation. While I am not religious per se, I believe that this allows freedom of examination in science, without having to upset people's beliefs. The Roman Catholic church has adopted this line of reasoning, as have other churches (see links). It also allows the resources of the Catholic Church (via the Catholic Scientists), to study archaeology, anthropology, cosmology, evolution etc, without fear of upsetting anyone. The Catholics have gone so far as to denounce Intelligent Design as not scientific and an insult to both science and religion.

I never thought that one precluded the other. They are just two different perspectives of the same thing. The Bible was written for many people over many ages. It says that God created everything, not how He did it. The Bible is written in simplistic terms to be understood by a wide range of people over a wide range of time. That doesn't mean it is untrue or invalid. Time has changed in meaning over the years. What is one day compared with eternity to God?

The Bible says that all knowledge comes through God. Perhaps He wants us to understand the hows.

As a scientist it is hard to look at how the world functions, including evolution, and not be awed no matter which creation you believe in.

I believe the idea of creationism comes from the fact that most people need to believe that there is something more to us than just these short little lives, that there is something more. I am not religious, and am all for evolution, and even I believe there is life after death. By saying some being created us all and is very merciful by doing so just helps cement our belief that there is life after death. I think we need the hope of life after death if we want to live our lives, though, so I am also in debt to theories like creationism.
