Courtship has already started. I've seen several paired groups. I'd say once this little cold front we just got gets all the way out of here and it warms up again, they're going to be everywhere. Breeding season, as mentioned, is busiest in May, and then you have to look out for females on nests.

I want to clear something up though. Alligators are NOT dangerous if you keep your wits. Our three fatalities last year were because of the following circumstances... One of those women had over the legal limit of alcohol in her system, and xanax, they're not even sure if she was conscious when she was attacked. The one in Ocala National Forest had rented a canoe, and when she rented that canoe, there were signs saying "No Swimming on Canoe Run". The other woman was drunk as well and swimming where she shouldn't have been, I believe.

Statistically, you have a better chance of being attacked and killed by a DOG here in Florida than by an alligator. Don't feed them and don't provoke them, and you'll be fine.

i have lived in florida for 27 years now on the swamps or preserves as everyone else likes to call them.gators are always dangerous but more so during mating season which is spring they become very aggressive and most active looking for that special someone

Yes, May, during mating season, and any time we are under drought conditions, like now, for example. Oh, yes, and after hurricanes, just ask anyone who went thru Andrew in "92.

They are most ornery when they need to brush their many teeth and have no toothbrush. This behavior originates in the Medula Oblongata.

May...that is their breeding season I do beleive.
