No, its just their way of setting you apart from them in a friendly manner. they are a fun loving group of wankers and they like to call people who don't drink willy washers. their sense of humour is kind of dry but all in all they do have a sense of humour.

Well, technically yes, but it's usually meant in jest. Even if they called you a Yank in an argument it's not exactly the most scathing thing they could say, right? It's no worse than a southerner calling you a "damned Yankee." I can think of any number of other things to call someone if I really wanted to insult them.

Only if your offended, its just the same as you guys calling us Limeys, its not really offensive.
Unless by some mad circumstance their on about the song in its origional context, but who does that???

Big ups!!!! x

Add. it would appear that people are a little confused, its nothing like the word Brit, it comes from the song from the time of your independance, Yankee doodle dandy, an to be honest yes it is, in the context it was intended offensive.

Brit is just an abreviation, Limey is the accurate terminology used by you guys which comes from our sailors stopping scurvey at sea.

No. We don't consider the internal ramifications that you do. To me, 'Yank' is just like you calling me a 'Brit'. It's slang for my nationality.

I've said it before, and I'll say it yet again. When they call us yanks, I think it actually feels very patriotic. Not to mention cute. : )

It's similar to calling them a "Brit." If they said it in a casual voice then it's just a pet term for Americans. If they used some kind of sneering sarcasm then they are insulting you.
