Krispy Kreme has hit Australia in a BIG way. They are in Sydney and now Melbourne but not yet in Brisbane. I have heard of people driving interstate to get some!!!
If you know how big Australia is and how big each state is, you could see why this is CRAZY!!!
How do they differ from normal doughnuts???

They are a cake-like donut, baked instead of fried. When they do new openings they give away free donuts to media people. Those kind of people would spend all day saying great hype in exchange for some free food. In the Boston area they opened with that kind of hype and then went out of business after people had a chance to try them.

Don't be fooled by hype - they are not that great.

I'm from America, home of Krispy kreme donuts and I'm still trying to figure out what all the big deal is about the damn donuts. I had one once and thought it was awful. I don't get it. My friends think they are wonderful and as I live in NYC, when they come to visit from other parts of the country, I guess it's like where you are, we go on a search for the damn donuts, but here they have to be freshly baked and we have to wait on line. I haven't figured out the difference yet, except they seem to be sweeter, and I hate that.

In the US South, going to the local Krispy Kreme was a real treat. Nothing is like getting one of the glazed donuts hot off the line. The HOT sign is on when the donuts are coming off the line. You can watch the glaze spray on the donuts, and then the worker lifts them with a wooden utensil to keep them from mashing flat. They will melt in your mouth. We usually get a box of mixed as they are all good. Our favorites are the original glazed, glazed raspberry filled, and choclate iced Kreme filled. We ALWAYS eat the glazed ones first while they are still hot. Today, they are fried in 100% vegetable oil and not lard. Try the glazed and a couple of the flavors. If you don't, you will never know if you like them or not. A lot of the experience is due to taste preference.

Krispy Kremes donuts originated in Georgia and that was the only place you can find them, but they're good as all get out and I can only eat 3 and wash it down with a glass of lowfat milk. I can't eat them often they're super sugary. Krispy Kremes are freshly made every few minutes and have to be consumed within the time they're made before they get real hard like doorstoppers.

Well they are MUCH sweeter than regular donuts, so if you like something sweet, then it will be good in your opinion probably. I know a lot of people who don't like them because of just that. I personally, only like them when they are warm. That's a gimmick really only Krispy Kreme does- you know you're getting a fresh donut. Also, they have good flavors, like generally a specialty flavor each month. They opened a few here in Boston, MA and many quickly closed. There was so much hype, and then it quickly closed.

Definitely overrated. I've been a Dunkin person from Day 1, and when I heard about this OMG try Krispy Kreme it's the best ever and I finally did 6 months later...I was unimpressed. I wouldn't embarass myself to ask for a refund but it was WAY too sweet.

I used to work at Krispy Kreme Donuts about 30 years ago. It is a 24 hour a day business. I can tell you that the secret to their popularity is that they are freshly made all day long. People were drawn into the shop by the fabulous sweet aroma that drifted out into the air. We used to serve them hot off the line. They melt in your mouth. They are the absolute best donuts as far as I am concerned.

Drive to Sydney or Melbourne and go into the facory and let them feed you one warm, right off the line.
That's the way I got my first KK in San Antonio TX, USA and I have yet to pass up a Krispy Kreme since then.
Their chocolate ones are chocolate icing over TOP of the regular glaze....Dude, you never had a mouthful like that! And I have have some amazing food.

Dunkin Donuts doesn't even make their donuts fresh in the stores. They come in frozen and they microwave them and add toppings. Krispy Kreme, bought in a convenient store or grocery store is ok, but not all that good. Buying them fresh made, still hot from the Krispy Kreme store is awesome. and...they are NOT baked. We have a store here that supplies all the grocery and convenient stores. You can walk in watch them being made and see they are fried.

They are not greasy at all!! They melt in your mouth. Regular donuts are more dense, Krispy Kreme donuts are light and airy. And the chocolate covered glazed donuts are the bomb. You have to go get one and try it- You'll see the difference!! If you can, get one right after it's made, hot and fresh.

They are like warm gooey globs of crack. Once you have had a taste of fresh Krispy Kreme's right off the line, you too will understand the addictive power that these things have.
