Besides the fact that you are killing the baby.

There has always been a question as to when "life" or "realization of existence" begins. When is a fertilized ovum a person? This is a question which has been debated by the religious, the philosopher and the scientist, and not what your asking.
Why do I oppose embryonic cell research? Because if you can justify the use of "Created Embryos" for research, at what point does the technology outstrip the ethical debate?
What if rather than creating embryos to 16 cells, we can creat full term or near term, infants? These could be grown without parents, so are they then a commodity, or actual beings? Can you utilize their parts, and discard the rest? Can you experiment on these, justifying it saying the moral abhorrence is out striped by the POSSIBLE benefits to science and medicine?
Human experimentation, no matter what the possible benefits, is in it self, aberrant. Note the reaction to Dr. Mendelssohn's research using the Jewish women in the concentration camps. No-one wishes that horror on the world again. When you can justify the use of destruction of one human being for for the benefit of the others you lower the value of all of us.

There are two main problems with use of embryonic stem cells in tissue-replacement therapy. First, when implanted into a tissue, embryonic stem cells tend to be tumorgenic. That is, they form tumors.

Also, rejection will occur if there is not a close genetic match between the embryonic stem cells and the patient receiving the stem cell implants. This problem is identical to the rejection that occurs in organ-transplant therapies when the organ of the donor doesn't match the recipient's genetic type.

you're not killing the baby, but there are some that say embryonic stem cell research would help those who terminate their pregnancy feel better about it. Personally, I think it's all right wing crap. Oh, and sir, embryonic stem cells are not harvested from the umbilical cord; they're harvested from the EMBRYO.

Have you ever eaten an egg?

An embryo is only available for 2 months after conception... it's not the same as a fully functioning baby, it doesn't even have a thought process at that age.

EDIT: The "Genius" guy above me says it's wrong to harvest stem cells from an embryo, but abortions are perfectly fine. Stop farming points and read up on your subjects before you post.

For reasons other posters have mentioned, you're not "killing" any "baby." There is no baby yet.

Reasons? Well, how about this one: Valuing a clump of cells more than you value a living, breathing, mature human being.

If right-wingers supposedly think all life is precious, why do they think some lives are more precious than others? (i.e., fetuses, embryos, and stem cells are more precious than grown adults.)

Killing babies? What a retarded misinformed thing to say.

Stem cell research takes the UMBILICAL and after birth fluid ya nit wit. By the time that crap is available, the baby is already OUT and screaming to be fed.

1) Ignorance 2) The "ostrich syndrome.' 3) Not giving a damn how many lives it would save. 4) Believing that fatal illnesses are God's way of thinning out the herd. 5) Pure-T orneriness.
6) You probably don't have a cancer tumor that's slowly eating you.

Technically stem cell research doesn't kill babies. Abortion kills babies (I'm sorry - terminates fetuses). And as long as abortion is legal, it makes no sense not to use the refuse for a greater good.

Its just wrong, why if it was meant for them to walk they would. Its not right for them to take many live to try to find a cure for some guy in a wheelchair!!!

But if the fetus was gain through abortion there is no harm in using it for research
