I am looking at being a single mom of two young children soon. I am a homemaker now and will need to begin schooling to have a career to provide for myself and my children. Naturally, I don't want to work 60 hours a week, I wantt o be with my kids as much as possible. I also need to bring in enough income to support us well. I have taken career assesment tests, and they suggest something in education or social work. I love the stay at home mom lifestyle, I would be June Cleaver if I could! I really enjoy housework, cooking, cleaning, laundry, and of course being with my kids. Are there any other single moms out there who have found a career that works really well for them this way? Thanks in advance!

My suggestion would be a home based business. There are tons of materials on this subject alone.

Something in the nursing field, if you desire that type of work. A residential counselor or an in home health aid generally don't take long to train for (less than a year). Check out the red cross for free courses (sometimes they offer them) in other areas of nursing. If you get your foot in the door in any type of general business setting it is usually easy to work your way up. If you are a really outgoing type of person and like a competitive workplace, maybe apply to a jewelry store (and they generally work on commission). If you are good over the phone, try getting a receptionist position. If you love to type, check out medical transciptionist. It is usually all about working your way from the bottom up. I started off washing dishes in my teens, then they moved me up to waitressing. That experience of interaction gave me confidence and I did really well as a telemarketer. Because I did so well, I got promoted to a supervisor and moved on to other companies after graduating college to be in general or upper management. So as you see every job played a role. BTW my degree is in business administration
