Though I did not always agree with his politics or religious views, he was, I believe one of the top 3 cartoonists of my lifetime.

He died of a stroke in the middle of creating a new strip.

I grew up reading his comics in the sunday paper and the paperback books.
My brother has some of his drinking glasses from Pizza hut or somewhere like that from yrs ago.

Personally, I'd call it Karma. Interesting that Johnny should die of the very thing he castigated my grandfather for years ago. Forcing retirement on my grandfather because his strokes were beginning to affect his ability to continue the strip. But the manner in which Johnny did it was a betrayal of the decades long friendship of the co-creators.

just heard that on the radio. I'm surprised his syndicator didn't drop him long ago. But I loved the strip.

i loved the comics. i'm very sad that he died. definitely one of the greats.
