In the 21st century (and for some of us in the past century as well) it is vogue to take an interest in many subjects, modern and classical. The four elements of which the ancients were concerned were of course air, water, fire, and earth. Sure, chemically air and earth are compounds and water is a molecule, not an element. Fire is actually the result of a chemical reaction! It sure does heat up a good cup of hot chocolate though.
The fifth element was every bit as noticed by the ancients, although even more mysterious. It's the life force inside of us, and all living things. Most people call it spirit.
Except in the movie. And on the periodic table.
Hope this helped!

Traditional Chinese philosophy recognizes five elements: wood, fire, earth, metal, and water. But in the western tradition there are only four: earth, air, fire, and water.
As far as more modern versions go, I prefer Milla Jovovich to boron.

Smoke is not an element. It is a suspension. Suspensions will separate after a period of time whereas a solution will not.
