Can someone please explain the Matrix movie to me?

I don't understand how Xion has been destroyed by the machines six times over and that Neo has reset the matrix the last six times but is still alive at the start of the next time and Xion is back again? Please explain.

the city is built by a new generation of humans where the machine is unable to locate (until after so many years), the machine isn't destroyed by neo, only reset(restarted) in order to purge the virus (smith) from the system.

There are two theories:

1- That the Matrix is older then anybody suspected, meaning that from the 1st time, The One and a certain number of others were released from the Matrix to give the illusion of choice to control the anomalies, These people escaped, and formed a city (Zion) and populated it, then the machines found it and destroyed it. Then these same people were reincarnated inside the Matrix and it happened 6 times, meaning the Matrix is many hundreds of years old.

2. That there is no "outside the matrix' everything happening is within the Matrix but designed to make the One, the others believe they were outside the matrix to control the anomalies of choice, Zion is a part of the matrix, like the train station.

My view on The Matrix: Thousands of years ago, Man created a unique computer program that "mimicked" independent thought; actually, it acheived far far more than that. For unknown reasons, Man's existance was all but wiped out, and surviving humans had to go underground.

Following Man, perhaps as a "life vest" of survival, was The Matrix (likely not called such at that time). In the Physical Plane, Man merely "plugged in" to The Matrix--and lived out a whole different, more perfect existance, while their physical bodies lay in a limbo state......and life was hunky dory.....for a while.

At some point in the ever evolving computer reprogramming process The Matrix was capable of, it got ambitious. An entity called The Creator formed and had plans of his own. For they yin, there is the yang.....and The Oracle also formed as a nemesis of The Creator. Actually, who really knows who was made first? Who even, at this stage, cares even?

And so came the Division of worlds: The Physical Plane versus The Matrix.....but things don't just stop there......

The Creator sought the destruction of Humankind, confident they were no longer needed for his control of this cyberworld; humans were now considered a pesky nusance.

Six generations of Matrix characters rose, died and re-cycled (looped--akin to a computer program); humans carried on. To further assist The Creator in his wiping out humans, The Matrix also gleaned the ability to make REAL war machines of mass destruction. Now, humans had two different battles on two different existance planes to deal with--and they were challeneged to win both.

Neo basically was The One to over-ride The Creator, and allow citizens of The Matrix to be harmonious w/ Humans. Humans also defeated The Machines......for now, anyways.
