The best answer gets 10 points.
One catch here, though. You cannot use that lame, whiny crap about money, spending, salary caps, or any of that. I want REAL reasons. This question is to see if anyone has any legitimate reasons for hating the Yankees, and not just mere jealousy. I'm betting you don't. Still, I want a good effort, as the 10 points will be awarded, guaranteed.

The Yankees are a lot like Jesus and Elvis--they are the greatest ever, but their fans tend to really suck.

One of the reasons I don't like the Yankees is because of what you said. You just said you don't want the #1 reason that people hate the Yankees as a reason for hating the Yankees. Their fans are so obnoxious and smug it is ridiculous. Take the 2004 ALCS for example: when the Yankees were up 3-0, there were Yankee fans everywhere all around the streets. But once they lost, you could not find any in sight. Sure, now that times are good, Yankee fans are out in full force, but back in the 80's and early 90's the Yankees' fans barely came out to Yankee Stadium. There fans are so ridiculous that when A-Rod hits .290, has 35 HR and 121 RBI he gets booed out of his mind. Yankee fans are impossible to like. More than three decades ago, Roger Angell described them as "overdressed, uncomprehending autumn arrivistes." Today we would describe them as front-running boors.
Secondly, the Yankees are generally regarded as the preminent sports franchise (and rightly so), but they have only won six championships in the last 44 years, and four of those came in the Brosious Era. Their other twenty championships came in a 39 year period. Though the Yankees haven't been as dominant as the were in the 1920's-1960's, you wouldn't know it from some Yankee fans' opinions. They feel demeaned when talked to at the same level as any other baseball team.
Thirdly, Yankee fans get mad when people pull the "they spend more money than anyone else can" card, but yet when the Red Sox paid $51,111,111 to talk to Dasiuke Matsuzaka, what do you think Yankee fans were saying?

There, and I didn't even have to say that Yankee fans have spent over $1 billion in the last six years, more than a lot of third-world countries.

I always like to cheer for the underdog and since Steinbrenner has bought (oops) put together this team, I always go against them.

Another reason is the hype surrounding Joe Torre. I'm sorry but I could drop the names of the Yankee players on the floor and my dog could pick out a suitable line up. It's amazing how he wasn't considered such a great manager when he was with the Braves, it's because he had to mentor the rookies (since the Braves actually utilize the farmclub system) and actually think about how to build a winning team. He also didn't have the designated hitter so he had to use his brain and decide when to pull his pitchers and when to let them bat.

Number one is George Steinbrenner. He's basically a bully at times, and treats his people badly. Class acts like Don Zimmer and Mel Stottlemyre have been driven out of the organization, and Joe Torre has at least thought about leaving. He's certainly willing to spend money to win, and deserves credit for that, but he's a difficult man to root for.

Second, Yankee fans. They overrate the talent of their players and diminish the abilities of others. Many are happy winners and poor losers, and take winning with a sense of entitlement rather than joy. Very few have fun with the rivalry with the Red Sox.

Third, the media. New York writers generally are biased toward the Yankees. That's to be a bit expected, but there's more media there so it influences national media. Plus, the Yankees are forced down the country's throats in terms of scheduling. New York often on the game of the week, often on in prime time during the playoffs. Sometimes there are better stories out there. And, every Yankee doesn't deserve a book ... or three.

I've got nothing against many of the Yankees. I'll take many of them on my team anytime, and Torre can manage them. Rivera, A-Rod and Jeter are Hall of Famers. Damon and Abreu are nice players, Posada has held up very well over the years, and so on. But it sure is fun to see the commotion when they lose. And no matter what, Yankee haters will always have 2004.

I hate the Yankees because they are the Yankees pure and simple. They get the most media attention of any team in baseball, they are always on TV, their players every move is chronicled, and yes, you have the best team money can buy...that's not being whiney, it's the truth. I remember a few years ago when Santana of the Twins was going to be a free agent everyone in NY said he would come there because the Twins wouldn't be able to resign him...guess what, he re-signed out of LOYALTY to the organization, but it was the arrogance of the NY fans I remembered the most..we're going to get him, your not, well, we still got him, you don't. It's the whole arrogance thing that made me hate the Yankees from the owner down to the fans....and I love it especially when the Yankees lose. I hope you guys run A-Rod out of town so he comes back to haunt you!

I as a mets fan do no longer hate the Yankees because of the fact i'm disgruntled that the Yankees win greater! I hate the Yankees and their followers for a number of motives and none of because of the fact they have won maximum of international sequence that replaced into the previous it rather is now! i individually merely can no longer stand them because of the fact if we are no longer competitors such as you assert why are they insisting they are greater efficient than us? i think of Yankees and their followers will continuously have a brilliant egos so possibly whilst they recover from themselves we are able to all get alongside, yet so a techniques as i will see we are competitors and continuously would be.......

The Yankees have no farm team they have no talent besides the ones that come via other ways. Name the last player that the Yankees developed besides Jeter or Bernie Williams? Nobody. Their owner would rather treat anyone who gets in his way like garbage ala Torre because he didn't win a championship every year with the bought talent! Hmmmmmmmmmmmm No one respects the yankees anymore they're just a major joke to most players but act all happy when they get to the yankees but one screw up gets them in the doghouse that they'll never get out of like Arod. Have I listed enough?

It's the Yankee fans. They live their lives vicariously through the team, assuming that because they root for a winning team, they themselves are winners, and come off as pompous *******. In truth, if you need a sports teams to validate your self-worth, then you are an emotional loser, as most Yankee fans are. Dallas Cowboy fans also fit into this category.

The Yankees are often successful... this takes the excitement out of baseball. Personally, I'm a Met fan, partially because I was born into an all Met-fan family, but also because I believe Met fans have true spirit for their team, winning or losing. I find the Mets more interesting, because of the team spirit and my pure love for the game. I know many people that are Yankee fans simply because they always win, and they want to be winners... Maybe this helps?

The owner because he thinks he can just buy championships and is ruining basebal! Money is a REAL reason because IT IS DESTROYING BASEBALL! In this environment when the Yankees win championships it is watered down!
