This question may or may not have anything to do with gay marriage.

Do you believe that America would be a better country, a truely free country, if the federal, state or local government were given the authority to dictate to people who they can and can not marry?

Let's assume we're talking about adults, all states already have age limitations in place.

What about very elderly people?

What about mentally retarted people?

What about couples who are greatly different in age?

What about interracial couples?

When, if at all, is it in the public's best interest to prohibit two people from getting married?

Please share your thoughts on.

People should be able to dictate who they can or cannot marry. So many marriages already end in divorce. I do not see why gay people should not be allowed to marry, they should be given the same rights as any straight couple.

and to some of the other answers....why do you marry someone? Love is why, if 2 people are in love, for petes sake, let them get married.

It would be great if someone could stop your daughter from marrying the biggest jerk in the world but beyond that, no, no one should be able to make laws regarding marriage. The age limitations are fine with me but no other laws should be made regarding marriage between 2 human beings. I can't even understand the reasoning of people who say gays shouldn't marry...it doesn't make any sense.

States already regulate marriage, and have laws on the books about who can marry.

I think that it works just fine.

Look, without getting into the morality of the issue, the reason EVERYBODY should be against gay "marriage" is because they are pushing for the same benefits from the govt. that married couples have. It's all about the money, just like with most other issues.
