You have to divide the 4/7 into 7 parts, and then take 3 of these.
To do this multiply the numerators together and the denominators together or:
3/7 of 4/7 = (3*4)/(7*7) = 12/49

'of' means 'times' (multiply)
3/7 of 4/7 = 3/7 * 4/7 = 12/49

To find 3/7 of something, you take the something and divide it into seven pieces. Then you collect three of these pieces and evaluate them:

here, the something is 4/7.

Divide it by 7 (same as multiplying by 1/7)

(4/7)*(1/7) = 4/49

Then take three of these pieces:

3* (4/49) = 12/49

---

Shortcut:

(3/7)*(4/7) = (3*4)/(7*7) = 12/49

No. The answer is 12/49. Of means times here.
So multiply top times top and bottom times bottom.
3*4 = 12 and 7*7 = 49.

It's not 3/7

To calculate "of" with fractions, "of" is equivalent to multiplication.

3/7 of 4/7 is the same as
(3/7)(4/7) = 12/49

To make fractions of fractions much clearer, let's take half of an apple.

Supposed we wanted to take half of a half of an apple. That would mean we would cut the apple's half in half, and end up with one quarter. How did we obtain this? By multiplying.

(1/2) of (1/2)
(1/2) x (1/2) = 1/4
