1. Depends on where you buy them. Also, external DVD burners are more expensive than their internal equivalents. Generally, it is cheaper to buy online than in retail stores. For example, my Lite-On DVD burner cost me $35.00 at newegg.com while the same burner cost $60 at my local Staples store. Expect items at retail stores to be 20-50% greater than those found on online stores. Usually, online stores, like newegg.com, sell both retail and OEM burners. The retail versions are more expense but they come with a warranty, owner's manual and accessories. Expect to save 10-20% off on OEM burners but they do not come with a warranty. Always factor in shipping and handling fees before buying online. In addition, you can oftentimes avoid sales tax on items purchase online - as long as the company is not located in the state you live in.

2. Several popular computer stores carry an assortment of different make and model DVD burners, including: BestBuy, CompUSA, Staples, Circuit City, Office Depot...etc. There are also several online stores, such as: newegg.com, buy.com and tigerdirect.com. I regular buy from newegg.com and I have always been happy with their service.

3. You can find a decent internal DVD burner from $30 - $80. Make sure to check what media it can play as well as burn. Check to see if it can burn to dual layered disks. Check also the speed at which it can burn DVD and/or CD. I suggest sticking to the name brands since they tend to be more reliable. I recommend Lite-On, Sony, Memorex and NEC.

1. Around $40 or so.
2. I'd recommend "newegg.com" at the below link to see various ones.
3. Get one that is a DVD-+R/CD-R/RW, with a DVD speed of around 16X. Most all of the present ones will do that easily.
