Yao came back and lost agaisnt the cavs,artest(that wasn't injury)came back and lost,shaq came back and lost agaisnt the pacers and now Wade comes back and loses agaisnt the bobcats.

To the extent that this trend is real, I would assume it applies largely to star players. The first reason is that a team has become accustomed to playing (and often winning) while a player is absent. It takes time to work a Dwyane Wade type back into a rotation.

The second reason is that player's tend to be a little rusty after a long absence. If that player demands the ball a lot, that means more turnovers and more missed shots.

That said, a number of teams do win games when star players return. Much depends on the strength of the players surrounding the star.

because they are trying to adjust having him playing with the team again while trying to win the game. things get out of hand.
