The star is an Amish tradition of placing a star on the barn as a good luck symbol. If you travel to the Lancaster, PA area you will see many stars on barns, houses,& businesses for luck. You will also see many of the Amish 'hex' signs and other symbols.

A 5-pointed star either in red or done in metal (often allowed to rust on purpose) is most often seen on houses.

I've read these answers and they are all strange to me. The only time that I've seen a star are peoples houses is at Christmas time.

I think that is for the star that led them to Jesus. At Christmas we always have a star on the Christmas tree top. This is the only star that I know about that has something to do with Christmas.
