I don't harbor any misconceptions that he would actually win the race but maybe his presence on the ticket would propel the Green Party into the National Spotlight and make environmental issues an important topic for serious national debate.

If Al Gore ran in the Green Party with Dennis Kucnich as V.P., we'd not only have the makings of a strong third party (WITH AWESOME VALUES!) but strong, intelligent, compassionate leadership to get this nearly destroyed country back on the trail.
I think you are right on with your assessment, BUT I think there could be a chance of winning if all the intelligence of We The People hasn't been completely "sponged up" by a crappy, slanted media and a beer, sports, and t.v. mentality.

I greatly respect the man BUT, considering 1) that all his supporters (and Democratic detractors as well) seem to do is whine "spoiler, spoiler, spoiler" and 2) they themselves as a party have historically given environmental issues mere lip service and then no service when the race heats up . . .
I don't see this scenario happening.
We need a candidate for the Green ticket who is a Green, has been a Green, and will run all out as a Green without any of this whiney "oh no, it'll take votes away from the Dem and make the Repub win" kind of mentality!!
We learned the hard way that Gore's supporters couldn't hold up the logic when it came to this and then we learned even more when top Dems, like Gov. Bill Richardson, refused to allow vote recounts that were requested by Greens, recounts that might have changed the outcome of the 2004 election!!
I think he is a much stronger person outside of the presidential race and only hope that he is listened to or offered a cabinet position, and one with teeth, not simply a chair and a paperweight.

Would be interesting to do, as many on the left of the Democratic party really would fit better as a Green. It would make for a whole lot of talk and spotlight on the Green Party, but inevitably he won't get more votes than Ross Perot was able to get- just enough to make the Republican candidate win.

It might propel the Green party into the national spotlight, but it would split the Democratic vote. And depending on who the Republican candidate was, you'd have more of the same type of thing going on as you do now. Would not be a smart move.

Former Vice President Gore has spent his whole political life as a Democrat. It is his seat of power in the world of politics. Given his impassioned documentary, "Inconvient Truth" if for a moment he thought the Green Party would further his agenda, he would have long made the move. Now that he is being nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize, the scientific community has vindicated his moral authority on global warning, he has already won the popular vote for the election of President of the United States and he is now sought after as a political expert with credentials few can garner. Why would he want to run for President? Considering his accomplishments, what would the Office of President better afford him? What would the Green Party bring to the table for Mr. Gore?

Well, interesting idea but I really think old Al has put any ideas of presidential office behind him long ago. He has more respect now than he ever had while in the white house, albeit he also has caused a lot of controversy. People actually pay to hear him speak now, when he was vp nobody listened to him when he talked for free.
Nope, I am pretty sure Al moved on to greener pastures - pun intended.

I don't think he'd win- either. But he could continue to get his "message" out, and it'd be a terrific boost for the Green Party. Moreover, the other candidates would be forced to promote environmental issues- or lose votes to Gore. It might be a VERY good thing.
