2a^2 + 2a - 84
= 2(a^2 + a - 42)
= 2(a + 7)(a - 6)

a^2+a-42=0
a=((-1+-sqrt(169))/2 so a= 6 and a = -7
so
2a^2+2a-84 = 2(a-6)(a+6)
