ok. i just posted this question, but i kind of need to restate it.

9m^2-36m+40=0

i know that you have to use the quadratic formula, but the only reasonable answers that i can give are:

(6-2i)/3 , (6+2i)/3
or
[6- (2sqrt of 7i)]/3 , [6+ (2sqrt of 7i)]/3

which answer is it?

The first one.

9m^2 - 36m + 40 = 0
a = 9, b = -36, c = 40

m = [36 +/- sqrt(36^2 - 4(9)(40))] / (2*9)
m = [36 +/- sqrt(-144)] / 18
m = [36 +/- i*sqrt(144)] / 18
m = [36 +/- 12i] / 18
m = 36/18 +/- 12i/18
m = 2 +/- 2i/3 or
m = (6 +/- 2i)/3
