In life you have to decide whether you want to chase money or to have a rewarding career. Chase monsy and you should work in the stock market, to have an enjoyable and rewarding career then go for Engineering, it is not a well paid profession for the impact it has on everyones lives. Go for the branch of engineering that you like the sound of. For certain engineers a military background can be useful. Chemical engineers tend to be paid the best out of those trained as engineers that still do actual engineering rather than bean counting and managing people

1) Petroleum: $61,516
2) Chemical: $53,813
3) Computer: $52,464
4) Electrical/electronics and communications: $51,888
But who are the ones that are most in demand among all occupations for 2004-2014?
1) Environmental engineers
2) Biomedical engineers
Which engineer are declining or slower growth than all the others?
1) Petroleum & Mining (Declining)
2) Nuclear & Marine & Aerospace (Slow growth)

I'm a civil engineer, but I don't think you're approaching this the right way. You need to look into the different fields of engineering and figure out which fits your skills and interests most. Otherwise, even if you're making good money, you won't enjoy what you're doing.
