I'm a 27 female and on Medical Disability right now for depression/mental illness. I'm working very hard to try to build a life for myself and I really want to have relationships with people (friendships and/or dating), but am finding it difficult to meet people who are my age. I started going to church about a month and a half ago and also have started volunteering, but of course, people my age are working so the people I volunteer with mainly are retired. I've also searched through newspapers looking for things in my area that I could do like clubs or community classes, but it seems that everything out there is either for senior citizens, kids/teens or mothers (like Moms Clubs). I'm going to join my church's Young Adult's Sunday School class, but is there anything else out there that I could do?

I think I would advise against the "bar scene". But you can always try some other tried and true ways to meet people. You have to figure out what you like to do and then find others who like to do the same thing. For instance if you have dog, take you dog to a dog park and try to strike up a conversation with someone there. Just remember when you do finally break the ice, try to find some common ground. Once you have that try to expand on it. Be sure to listen more than you talk. Hopefully if you hit it off you can see eachother again. It's tough to meet new people, but it is therapeutic to make new friends. Good Luck!
