Years ago I worked at a hotel and there was group from Russia staying there, one of the guys caught squirrels in the yard and roasted them on a spit in the fireplace. I'm not making this up...

No......
a better way to cook them is in a pot first so the meat falls off the bones. Then you throw the meat in a pan with a bunch of seasonings. Taste great with rice a roni.
I'm not making this up either.
I'm not Russian. Born in the good ol' USA.
oh... and all the people say squirrels are nice and defenseless obviously haven't been near squirrels a lot in there life. they will hiss at you and stuff. If you get to close they will not hesitate to bite you either. I've been snapped at a lot but luckily not bitten.
The only nice squirrels are baby squirrels. Belive Me.

How can anyone love a squirrel? Would it ever let you get close enough to show you love it? I have eaten it before it tastes like chicken, but it was not roasted in a fireplace so my answer is no, sorry.

Of course, if I was hungry enough. But I like squirrels so I would hold out until we were done eating our cat (herrrre Jasmine).
Don't tell my girlfriend, but I would eat those birds she feeds if I had to too.
*oh yea, we don't have a fireplace... I built a nice firepit in the backyard though, we could roast em up on there.
