I understand you even if others don't. You are wondering what it takes to make the poor middle-class, right? You cannot rise to the occasion to be middle-class unless you work hard. College and non-college workers can be middle-class. Me and my wife do not have 4-year college degrees (she has a two year that she is not using) and I dropped out of college twice (college is not for me). Our household income is more than enough to be considered middle-class in Ohio. We do not have credit card debt (paid of $8,000 debt in 4-1/2 years) and we do not spend money every chance we get. I have two (soon to be three) retirement accounts and a small gun collection is my only hobby (outside of a pc).
We also have two good used japanese vehicles (I come from a delcoGM family!) for reliability. We are smart. We also have two children and travel down south every year to the beach. Discipline with some good luck will keep you above water. What is sad is that others destroy themselves financially then want you and me to bail them out. People call off of work for sh--- and giggles and make excuses. You will NEVER be better off by a politician or a handout. Only you can make a difference. PROUD TO BE A LIBERAL TEEN! is a wet-behind-the-ears child who won't be liberal long once she actually has to work and pay the IRS.

CLASSES ARE NOT DETERMINED BY INCOME!!!!!! There are only three: Upper, middle and lower. Classes are determined by "quality of life," so if you are in the top 10% of income and still live in a shitty home (drive a shitty car etc..) you are still middle class. And if you are in the bottom 5% income and still live in a house and have basic comforts, you arent lower class, you are middle class. Classes arent determined by how much money you gain by working hard, they are determined by how well you live (quality of life). For example, an old person with a really low income (living in a home) has a high level of comfort depending on how much their family pays. Therefore they are middle class, even if that persons income is practically nonexistant. This is why both communism and capitalism is flawed. One struggles to equalize money, while the other struggles to unequalize it. A perfect system of government would equalize and increase QUALITY OF LIFE. But that is what you get for being obsessed with money instead of the things we actually NEED.

I would say that everyone who works by the hour is middle class. The upper class often is of old money, whereby the children take over the helm of the family business. But if a family of 5 makes $100K, then they aren't in that catagory. If you are making payments on a car or house you are probably middle class. If you cannot pay for your child's college including room and board, then you are probably middle class.
From Wikipedia: "Taking into account the percentages provided in the six class model by Gilbert as well as Thompson and Hickey one can apply US Census Bureau statistics regarding income. According to these class models the lower middle class is located roughly between the 52nd and 84th percentile of society. In terms of personal income distribution in 2005 that would meant gross annual personal incomes from about $32,500 to $60,000" but this is only one opinion...there is no exact defintition
Tell us, are you making that much or if you inherited money, did you inherit enough so that you could live on the investments of it? Did your parents pay for all your college education? It is quite unfair to demonize the middle class and not say what your current situation is.
What kind of wacko puts down the middle class...which is about 75% of all Americans?

Except for the top tier and the lower rungs, we are all middle class. It is a Liberal lie that the middle class is disappearing.
Ironically, it will be their policies which hurt the middle class the most. Raise minimum wage? Watch costs go up for the middle class. Increase taxes and regulations on businesses? Watch the middle class lose jobs to outsourcing.
And when they're done ruining the economy, they will blame whatever Republican is in power at the time.
