If nothing is helping it could be a yeast infection, air will help but a medicated cream like monistat should be used.
If it is a yeast infection it will be raised and pimply very red and puffy and could even be bleeding

My son had a really bad diaper rash, skin cracking and bleeding. I tried all and I mean all of the remedies that I could find. I tried Desitin, A&D, Aveeno, Johnson&johnson, Boudreax's Butt paste, and a few more. I took him to the dr and they told me to use Plain Crisco and Baking Soda, but that seemed to hurt him even though they said it shouldn't, he cried alot more. Then I tried some rememdies that I found online, took him back to the dr, they tested him for several things like strep throat, bacterial infections, ect. Finally, someone told me about Triple Paste, I can only find it at Walgreens and Kroger, but Target said they could order it and you can order it online at www.triplepaste.com. it is more expensive than other diaper creams but it is so totally worth the cost. After having a diaper rash for over three weeks and crying at every diaper change, after one night I could tell a huge difference in the amount of irritation. After three days His bottom was starting to heal, and after a week it was completely gone. I would pay double the retail price for this stuff it is the best thing I have ever used. It also lasts a pretty long time. Good luck!

If nothing is helping and the rash looks bad (really red with lots of little red bumps) it may be a yeast infection. Sometimes this happens when the baby is on antibiotics, or the moist environment in the diaper can trigger it. You should get it looked at by the ped. Yeast infections can be treated by OTC "Lotrimin for Her," applied 2x a day. This cream is marketed as a foot fungal cream but it also treats yeast infections.
The BEST diaper rash cream I've found is Triple Paste. It's really thick and medicated and it works great.

My son had a horrible case of diaper rash and I tried everything to get rid of it. Desitin seemed to work the best from an ointment standpoint. However leaving the diaper off for extended periods and laying him on a towel helped the most. After 7 days I took him to the Dr. and she said it could be an allergy to the gel beads used to soak up the fluids. I switched him from Pampers to Huggies and it was gone the next day. I tried Pampers at a friend's house months later and he had a rash within an hour. Might be something to consider. Good luck!

Heather and TwinMom are correct. My poor son had a rash that nothing would cure. I didn't know boys could get yeast infections. Once I found out it was a yeast infection, I saw immediate results with the Lotramin AF over the counter cream. It seems like they had me put a layer of antibiotic cream over the top of it, neosporin. They have also accurately described the rash. The little bumps on my son's actually broke open a started bleeding. After we cleared it up, we found the cause was a milk allergy. I had just stopped breastfeeding (1yr) and had to switch to soy formula. No further rash problems after the change.

Yes, pure zinc oxcide works. It's the main ingredient in diaper rash creams, but if you use it by itself, it's way more effective. I've never met a person/baby who it didn't work for. You can get it at Walgreens. It's even better than Butt Paste. I've had a couple of friends whose babies had horrible rashes and when they got this cream, after trying everything else, it worked within 24 hours.

My son had it really bad. I didn't use wipes at all, just wet paper towel. I then let him air dry and I didn't put any creams on(they all seemed to be making his worse) I changed him often and bought some of the best diapers cause they absorb more and he atleast felt drier longer. Each rash could be different, I hope this is a help.

There is a cream that is sold in drug stores around here that is called Resinol and it works very, very, very well! I used it on my daughter and she uses it on her's now and I recommend it to anyone who has a child with a diaper rash, it usually clears it up in 24 hours! If your drug store doesn't carry it ask if they can order it for you- it comes in a jar and it isn't a prescription and it is about $6 for a jar of it and it lasts quite awhile. Try to find it- I swear it works. If you can't find it e-mail me and we can work something out! Also instaed of using baby wipes to clean the bottom of your baby use a warm wash cloth- and let the bottom air out (no diaper) for a while everyday.

When all else failed, I went out and bought good old fashion corn starch at the grocery store. It does work. Sometimes a rash can turn into a yeast infection (even on boys) and it does look very swollen, red and painful. Check with your doctor but if that is the case then you can also use Monistat cream over the counter.

Wipe the baby gently with unscented wipes. Give him some naked time, letting him dry completely. Use Burt's Bees diaper cream, then a barrier like vaseline. Once the rash is gone, use vaseline to keep moisture off the skin.

When my son had it really bad my mother told me to put some baking soda in his bath water. The baking soda helps dry it out. I also let him run around with no diaper for a few mins at a time. You can try putting cornstarch is his diaper as well that might help keep it dry. Putting a thin layer of vasoline on his bottom will help keep the wetness off of it. Basically just try to keep his bottom as dry as possible.
Good luck
