i had my 2nd daughter 6 weeks early, and she was fine!! My water had broke and i had a c-section with her(my choice since it was a 2nd pregnancy * child #1 was c-section) . before i had her the Dr's of course tell you all the "things that could happen" (breathing problems due to lungs being under developed, not being able to latch on when breast feeding etc) They also did an ultra sound before i had her, and told me that she would be around 4 lbs. When she was born she was almost 6 lbs! and had no problems what so ever. She did spend some time in the neo-natal intensive care for observation, but she was home with me within 3 days of her birth. Every situation is different, but there are amazing things that can be used in the medical world to help a preemie baby. Good luck!!!

Ours was born a month early. That's right about when the danger of the baby having problems due to premature birth is going away. There's a small risk of lung immaturity around then. Our daughter had no lung problems. Labor was pretty much normal except the baby's small size made it a little easier.

YES!! *GriN* My MOTHER!! I was born a month early. I weighed 4 lbs 14 ozs at birth. I'm not sure if any conditions I have are caused by being born a month early...
My IQ is a little above average (tests between 148 and 170 most of the time)
I was pretty thin most of my life (103 lbs when I was drafted into the Army at 19 yrs old)
I am allergic to dairy products and cedar (and something else that I'm not sure what it is yet)...
I am not sure how my Mother's labor was and she passed away in 1960 so I can't ask her.. but I was her 5th child.. so maybe not too bad.

The labor is different for me with every pregnancy. I gave birth a month early and my baby had to be in intensive care for 10 days. I could'nt touch him or feed him for the first 4 days. He was under distress and had under-developed lungs. Once he was able to eat, they had to tube feed him thru the nose. This was a traumatic experience not only for me but for my baby also. Just so you know, not all babies endure this type of situation when they are this early, so please don't let me worry you for this is my personal experience.

My sister gave birth to a baby boy exactly one month before she was due. My nephew only weighed five pounds when he was born, but he just recently celebarted his 2nd birthday and he is just as big and healthy as all the other children his age. Her labor was fairly quick for it to be her first child. Her water broke at 9AM and my nephew was born at 5PM.

I was born @ 31 weeks & that was 29 years ago. I was in the NICU for 3 weeks, because I neeeded help regulating my temp. I was born @ 4lbs 6ozs. And, I am perfectly healthy. No lasting effects. Your baby will be fine if born a month early.

My son was born a month early. He weighed 7lb 2 oz.
Labor went FAST! I dilated to 7cm in 12 contractions! Just when it started to REALLY hurt, I was fully dilated - too late for pain meds.
He was jaundiced but otherwise healthy. No brething problems, etc. I got to hold him for 1-1/2 hours after birth before they weighed and bathed him.

My sister gave birth 3.5 weeks early, and the baby was fine. He got Jaundice, but that is common for all babies. She had to have a c-section because he was breech, but everything has been fine since.
