13 years old- your're either a freshman or in 8th grade

first off- I wouldn't start studying for the PSATs or anything yet. However, if you are a freshman and this will be your only year of taking something such as biology, sigh for the SAT Subject Test in Biology if signing up is still allowed.

Good for you for thinking about this so early. Just don't get crazy about it; you still have a long time to go. Since the sciences will be most important for you, make sure you take any science courses you can in school, and if you have opportunities for additional programs like CTY (Center for Talented Youth, a program through Johns Hopkins University which offers summer enrichment programs on college campuses from your age on), get involved in them. In a couple of years, you might want to volunteer at a hospital, so that you can be more certain that this is what you are interested in pursuing. And above all, know that these are very competitive programs, so you will need to work hard in school, taking the harder math and science classes, as you go through middle and high school. Good luck!

-try saving up some money. Even afte a few years you realize you can't actually pay for college, at least you'll have a little spending money for things related -take par in as many school activities as possible, it'll look good on your application -make good friendships/acquaintances with a lot o people, who could be of great help in the application process -be prepared to take advanced placement classes or college level classes when in high school this will help you AMAZINGLY

The most important thing to do now is to sharpen your skill in studying and maintaing good grades. There are many books that give great tips on studying skills so i strongly recommend you to read that. Since you are interested in the medical field, try to have a skim at many science subjects. Like physics, chemistry, biology, physical science. Your writing skill is also really important. So try to keep a journal and find different topics to write about daily.

People often think since they are going into medicine that they need to do well mostly in science (chemistry and biology), but it is always best to be proficient in math, science, English, reading comprehension and all other subjects. This is because you need a strong foundation for any goal you pursue.

It would be advisable to study Latin and the know all the muscles, organs, bones, and other human anatomy. start that now and hold on tight to your dreams.... aim to be a doctor and no matter where you land you will be OK.

Wow you really want a head start, which is a good thing. The best way to get started for your age is by either reading books about it or you can volunteer at a local hospital, just to get a feel of what its like. Goodluck!!
