With yourself- absolutely, being completely honest with other people is not always the best policy. If you believe that your honest opinion will benefit the person or your relationship with them, it might be worth to hurt them a little. But if you intend to say the truth just for the sake of the truth, in my opinion you'd just appear self-righteous and cruel.
Another example is being brutally honest when you speak to children, there is no reason to try and tell a little kid that there is no Santa or Easter Bunny, but to make them upset.
I think that one should try to speak the truth as they see it, but do no harm in the proses. Honesty is a virtue, but I believe it was Socrates that said that even virtues should be practiced in moderation. Hope that helps...

Yes, it is best to be honest. I dislike when someone lies to me and I find out. Sometimes it hurts more then because I believed them, and found out that they lied. Tell the truth...... it takes a BIG person to tell the truth, any whimp can lie.

Almost always..there are times when you have to hide something to protect yourself or someone you love.As long as your motives are pure,you will always do the right thing.
