There is a sense among many in the U.S. government that Britain acted in a way that has strengthened Iran. Internally, Ahmadinejad has been losing support and this little episode was a show of great strength to his people, as in "Look at us, we have captured soldiers from the mighty West, and they come groveling to us. They are not so great after all, and we are the strong ones."
So I don't think that the USA feels stupid about the episode. Whether they should or not is another question. British diplomacy likely had less to do with the freeing of their soldiers than did pressure from other countries (Including the US). Another distinct possibility is that this was a show of power by the Iranians and that they had always intended to give the soldiers back as an "Easter gift".

The "diplomacy" of which you speak consisted of the Brits telling the islamofascist government of Iran to release the British soldiers or significant portions of the Iranian military and some of the Iranian islamofascist leadership would cease to exist.
America has taught the Brits well and we are proud of their performance and trust that they will have sufficient ammunition for future "diplomacy".
Wake up and smell the stinking jihad.

Sorry, Taco. It wasn't an American problem and nobody over hear feels even slightly below average because of this crisis. What diplomacy did they use? It was basically a wait and see game.
Nobody that I saw was jumping up and down. It was a delicate situation that was handled in a delicate and proper manner. The British didn't require assistance and as far as I know, didn't ask for it.
I think you need to change your medications.

Funny thing is, if you would have read the Russian News on April 1, 2007 they told the Iranians that the Americans was going to start attacking on Good Friday at 4 A.M. until 4 P.M. April fool to Iran. Didn't take them long to release the hostages did it? Now how stupid do you feel?

Why would we look stupid. We told the Brits that we back them, and encouraged communication before violence. We knew it would take a while to get them back, but are very happy with the outcome. Stop feeling like you are superior just because you disagree with everything the President does, and the media tells you that makes you right.

We feel fine. Showing military strength was part of the diplomacy. Bad cop/good cop. You seem a little slow to catch up.
Folks, look at this guys profile and questions by clicking on his name. He's chosen his side in WWIII.
Are you on the same side?

Unfortunately the POLITICIANS of america don't learn from England. The regular citizen like me believes in talking out your differences until they flinch first. Then striking them down with the hammer that sends them back to the stoneage and their holes in the rock.

Well as you know some of us have been saying for a long time that the old Churchillian maxim, 'jaw, jaw is better that war, war' and he should know. He was a Commander in the 1st world war and saw active service. Unlike the short man in the WH who thinks the US Military is another toy that daddy bought him.
Yeh.. you are right. That is the reason why Blair has lost all credibility in England and will be gone within a month. The British had a tried and trusted method of diplomacy and that idiot decided to cowtow and play lapdog to a bigger idiot in Washington.
