I have stored clothes with mothballs and was wondering if anyone had a remedy to get the smell out? Submitted by J. Martin, Rocky Mount, VA
Suggestions:
My suggestion is to wash your clothes in baking soda the first time, then wash as usual the 2nd time. Repeat if necessary. Mary, MO
Baking soda (about 1 cup) added to the wash cycle elminates odors from clothes. If added to towels, it helps eliminate mildew
smell too. Teresa, KY
My suggestion to get the mothball smell out of clothes is to add a cup or two of distilled vinegar to the wash water and let it fill up and soak for an hour or so, then proceed to finish wash cycle. Distilled vinegar should not harm most fabrics, but if you have some fabric like silk or satin, I would test it first of course. Pam, MI
To help elminate the mothball ordor: hang garment(s) outside in the sun..... If smell is extremely strong you may want to repeat this step one or two more days. This tip also removed cat urine from a very special jacket. Phiedra Patton

The way that I do it is a combination of washing 2-3 times and then letting them air out for a few days in fresh air.

After giving them at good wash, you add 2 cups of white vinegar to the rinse water, and that should do it, if you smell a little vinegar, don't worry . When you dry them the odor will go away..
