They one I go to has 5 employees that know me by my first name

Yes they are a tad more than the big box stores, sometimes, but they can get stuff that the big box stores won't get for you.
Special orders take 3 or 4 days w/o extra shipping charges

One in a while somethinng doesn't work right, return it w/o a saleslip no problem, no long lines

I am handicapped, I can get into the Ace front door walking 2 widths of my pickup, It is at least 6x the distance to get into a big box store

Your ACE experience will vary greatly depending on the location. I used to live in Lynchburg, VA and the ACE was far better than the big box stores. Now, I live in Va Beach, VA and the ACE here stinks. I will say this though, at both locations, the average employee seems to be more knowlegable than the big box stores. They usually don't have as much inventory as the big guys either and their prices are a bit higher in general because they don't have the purchasing power of the big boys.

I have an open account with 2 different ace hardware stores in Michigan. They are very good to me. If your not having any luck with yours it is because the ace hardware's are individually owned. Therefor it isn't the Name its the owner and his training or lack of training for his staff

The Ace hardware store in Port Orchard Washington is great. They have most everything I need and the empoyees are head and shoulders above Lowe's or Home Depot in helping you. They know their stuff. Great store.
