My boyfriend put his CPU & Monitor in storage and we got them out after about 5 months, let them warm up and went to start it up and it won't load. We get one long and two short beeps and then nothing, the monitor light even stays orange! A few times the montior light up green and brought up "CompUSA" and let us get into the set up screen and then when we exit again the monitor light goes orange and it gives up one long and two short beeps. We tested the monitor with my laptop and it works, we tried a new keyboard and that didn't seem to help...any suggestions?

1 long, 2 short Indicates a video error has occurred and the BIOS cannot initialize the video screen to display any additional information

You should reseat all of your cards and memory, in any case. If you see any corrosion on the contacts, use denatured alcohol to rub them down with. Allow them to dry before reseating them

Haven't heard of one of these for years! If it's not a laptop, try switching off, taking out the video card and reseating it and then switching back on. If still no joy then send it back to the PC manufacturer. It is extremely rare for the Video BIOS to require updating - and if there is a new version available it is usually from a third party and will render your warranty useless. Could also be the video memory itself. If the video card is 'onboard', i.e. part of the motherboard itself, then it's duff. Oh, and it won't be the monitor because this is effectively 'invisible' to the BIOS. My advice - send it back for replacement.

What do you mean... in storage? If you pick up your cpu with bare hands and carelessly store it, static electricity from your hands can damage the delicate components of the CPU. This is why when purchased, the cpu comes wrapped in grounding plastic and when installed, the person should be wearing an antistatic wristband. But you may have misspoken... the cpu stands for central processing unit, it is the tiny chip at the core of your computer tasked with running all components. I think when you said CPU you meant your entire computer tower as a whole... im not sure, can you clarify?

Maybe an insect left some droppings on the video card connector/slot (LOL!).

Pull out your video card. Clean the contacts with a pencil eraser. They'll become shiny again. Reinstall videocard. That should do the trick.

Sounds like the battery on the motherboard went dead...and the BIOS settings aren't correct anymore. Or it got wet from condensation and you have hardware failure. It might be cheaper to buy a new PC.
