Almost any handcraft will sell well if you find the right market. I sell on Etsy.com and make a small profit, although I do know people on etsy that use that as their sole source of income. Check it out - there's everything there. It is a fun home business, but I'll warn you, it takes a lot of work to turn any serious profit.

Teaching basic computer skills is a great thing to do. Check at your local community college and at retirement villages - these places are often looking for people to teach basic computer skills classes.

Do you plan to start selling at the holiday bazaar or craft faire in town (don't forget fairs and such often charge you to set up a table, but it might be worth it to show off what you've made.) or are you just going to sell from home? The gals around here make quilts/ quillos (small quilts that fold into a pillow) or sew square pillows. Many people also say jewelry making is a good way to go, because everyone's creativity is different so it's fairly difficult for anyone to say you "took" her design. Depending on where you live you might have a little luck selling tie dyed t-shirts/scarfs to younger people in summer, but that's a big IF. There's always candle making, or soap making with shaped molds and scented oils. But I don't guarantee there's money in any of this, they're just suggestions.

Happy crafting and good luck on your business venture!!

I suggest that you offer a variety of crafts at Michael's and your recreation center. From teaching you can start to get yourself and your work out there and the orders would come after that; especially if you're telling people that you sell your items.

I have done some beaded jewelry making. It is a fun, relaxing hobby. You could sell jewelry that you have already made at craft fairs or take orders for custom jewelry. You could add your own personal style to each piece.

I got the idea for my biggest seller one night in the bubble bath, reading catalogs. I saw something I could make, a little better than what was in the catalog. later I improved on it even more, and now it's WAY better than the ones you can get in any catalog or store.

A lot of people fall into it because they're already making something and they notice that people keep asking them to make it for them, and even their own family is offering them money for it.
